The Bike Bus and Ride on - cycling for all Dartmoor Discovery weekend on Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th March was a lot of fun. The trip gave volunteers for Ride on and friends of The Bike Bus to get out on their bikes for the weekend, catch up and prove their skills on the beautifully undulating terrain of Dartmoor. We set off from the Ride on workshop at 8am, all aboard The Bike Bus with riders + bikes bound for the YHA Okehampton.
The ride led us from Okehampton towards Lydford, where the Castle Inn called the name of a few of us. Following the NCN route 27 south circumnavigating Brent Tor and sneaking through Peter and Mary Tavy to arrive at Tavistock at around 2pm.
Our best moments included the afternoon nap at Peter Tavy and the free breakfast at The Plume of Feathers on the Sunday morning.
Having shared The Plume of Feathers with about 50 + Ten Tours trainee assessors we had our fair quota of ale on Saturday night to ease the pain of waiting for the food to arrive from an incredibly busy kitchen.
The Sunday riding was amazing, sheltered from the wind and we made great time across to Widecombe and stopped for a well earned cream tea at Cafe on the Green.
The time was looking so good that we chose to take a detour towards Mannaton to experience the lush green valleys over-looking the Lustleigh area. Arriving at Bovey Tracey for our 4pm pre arranged meet up with Sam and The Bike Bus for our ride home.
